pokemon leaks round up 1 [gen 3]

as promised i'm doing this mostly for my own benefit bc there's SO MUCH that it's getting hard to keep track of lmao. starting with gen 3 because they have about the least amount of things! i'll probs do gen 4 tomorrow maybe 5 as well and i'll wait on gen 6 with... so much new stuff coming out still... so let's get to it

GENERATION 3

starting with a sheet of beta sprites:


on the bottom right, we see the beta starter designs:
the blue, water-type rabbit wallabit, which was replaced with mudkip
original treecko, which has red eyes rather than the yellow
original torchic, which has the wings on its head to go into beta blaziken:


we've seen this blaziken/latias fusion pokemon before, from the pretty famous art:


so it's really neat to see that they even had all the sprites ready to go for this design! i'm curious as to why they scrapped it and separated it out into two different pokemon, but that's something we will probably never know lol. here's more art of it:


this looks closer to blaziken, so i wonder if this was further into production? or earlier and they just returned to this? unsure.

there's a lot of the sprites here that pretty obviously became pokemon we know, like pelipper, flygon, clampearl, makuhita, lotad, ninjask, tropius etc. there's a lot of scrapped ones i'm pretty sad about though, most notably, my baby boy:


PIPPA!!!! WE COULD HAVE HAD IT ALL!!!!!!! look at this little guy. i'm so obsessed with him. i can only pray that rom hacks have him in as a pokemon in the near future. i cannot believe they scrapped him. here's more of him:



regarding the beta sprites, here are some confirmed evolution lines from the leak:


a lot of these look very familiar! i really like beta breloom, and beta zigzagoon was perfect and i adore him. he's SO cute there. i like the gyaru grass pokemon that got scrapped too lol, top right.

PSDs were also included in this leak, one of the more fun ones are the PSDs of the box art:

Thanks for the roundup! I tried to parse the leaks on Twitter and found it impossible.

At least in this gen, my reaction is mostly that I get why these were scrapped. They’re interesting or cute and I can see how they evolved (ha) to the final designs, but I like the final designs better!

Yeah, it's so overwhelming with the sheer amount coming out so figured if I was doing it for my own benefit, might as well share! Of course, just my luck that more gen 3 stuff came out today haha, so I'll have to put an update on the next one I do...

For the most part I agree when it comes to the ones that made it in! Flygon, Blaziken, Spinda, and Tropius especially look so much better in their final designs I think. I'm also glad we never got Spinda's odd looking evolution, looks really off to me lol.
