other notes: henry/olivia and chrom/robin are the background first gen ships here (and in....all my unposted fea fics.....)

#01 - Walking: The first day they'd met, she had been trying to teach her newly-born younger brother how to walk — Inigo felt a shameful pang of jealousy, but it melted away rather quickly when she looked up at him and smiled.

#02 - Waltz: The next time their parents brought him to the castle, it was because Olivia was going to be teaching the young princess how to waltz; Henry forced Inigo to go with her to be the young princess' practice partner.

#03 - Wishes: Sooner rather than later, Inigo and his parents had become regulars at the castle, and Robin — Lucina's mother, and as his father said, his mother's other best friend — told him gently that spending more time with him was what Lucina had wished for on her birthday that year.

#04 - Wonder: "Your hair reminds me so much of the snow," Lucina said, awed as she stroked Inigo's hair, and he couldn't help but think of his father's, too.

#05 - Worry: It had been two weeks since Lucina's parents had both passed; Inigo couldn't help but worry, both about her and about his parents, on their own mission.

#06 - Whimsy: Her blue hair was beautiful, Inigo thought, while she sharpened Falchion and he braided her hair.

#07 - Waste/Wasteland: The first time they stepped outside the castle after Grima's resurrection, Inigo was disgusted — the beautiful courtyard Cynthia's mother had created was now dead, and the air smelt of nothing but death and rotting flesh.

#08 - Whiskey and rum: Neither of Inigo's parents had ever been much for drinking, but in the room Lucina had designated his in the castle he watched as his mother downed a glass of something, and he knew that his father wouldn't be coming back home.

#09 - War: Henry used to revel in war, Inigo had heard — incorrectly, because he was positive his father hated it just as much as everyone else — but he couldn't help but resent his father for ever joking about it when he was on the front lines himself.

#10 - Weddings: That day would have been Lucina's parent's wedding anniversary, he realized, hearing Lucina cry as he walked past her tent.

#11 - Birthday: Inigo had honestly forgotten about his own birthday until Lucina came into his tent with a plate of badly frosted cookies and a tired smile.

#12 - Blessing: It was a waste of resources to make cookies, in his opinion, even for a birthday gift, but Lucina was having none of it.

#13 - Bias: Any protest about it being unfair to the others fell on deaf ears.

#14 - Burning: Moving through time made everything burn; his skin, his lungs, the blood in his veins — but he wasn't about to let Lucina go through that pain alone.

#15 - Breathing: Finally, after landing alone on a field, Inigo felt he could finally breathe again as he looked on at blue skies.

#16 - Breaking: It wasn't fair that Exalt Emmeryn had to die again, and Inigo wondered if Lucina was holding herself together all right when the news broke out.

#17 - Belief: His eyes widened in disbelief when he finally saw her again, after three long years — she was as radiant as she ever was, with the most genuine smile she'd worn in far too long.

#18 - Balloon: Instead of a happy greeting, Lucina began chewing him out for awkwardly hitting on his own mother when they'd stumbled upon him, and Inigo could feel his good mood deflate like a balloon.

#19 - Balcony: The Shepherds decided after fighting off the brigands that it was best to stay in the village for a night, giving Inigo and Lucina a private chance to catch up over dinner, on the balcony of the inn.

#20 - Bane: "You are absolutely the bane of my existence," Lucina scolded him, though her eyes were crinkled with mirth from the stories of his travel.

#21 - Quiet: It was a quiet night, at first, until Lucina ended up crawling into Inigo's room to share a bed, just like they used to back in the future.

#22 - Quirks: On a rare day off for the Shepherds, Inigo and Lucina were told to go into town for a supply run, and it became apparent her quirky sense of fashion had not changed a bit.

#23 - Question: "Why do you flirt with every girl you see," she said rather than asked, angry, and Inigo couldn't find a way to tell her it was originally because he wanted the confidence to talk to her when they were children.

#24 - Quarrel: Instead of answering honestly, Inigo tried to deflect with a joke — which did nothing but make her aggravated.

#25 - Quitting: "Ugh, Gods, I quit!"

#26 - Jump: Henry startled when he entered his parents' tent, but his normal smile quickly becomes a frown when he sees the pitiful tears staining Inigo's cheeks.

#27 - Jester: As always, Henry's wacky sense of humor at least made Inigo smile, but it couldn't erase the memory of Lucina's face when she screamed that she was done with him.

#28 - Jousting: Inigo traversed the camp quietly, watching as Kjelle and her mother jousted for fun, though he was not doing a very good job of pretending he wasn't looking for Lucina.

#29 - Jewel: Fiddling with a necklace from that day in town, Inigo stared at it —lapis lazuli, the merchant had called it, shooting a sly smile as her eyes shifted between Lucina and himself.

#30 - Just: He should apologize, he knew, but every word he thought of just fell short of honest.

#31 - Smirk: Inigo finally caved, asking a Robin wearing a very evil, knowing smile, where he might be able to find her daughter.

#32 - Sorrow: Of all things, Inigo had not expected Lucina to be crying when he finally found her; with that, all thoughts of what he should say went out the window as he gathered her into his arms.

#33 - Stupidity: "You are such an idiot," Lucina seethed, even as she clung onto Inigo like a second skin, tears soaking his clothes.

#34 - Serenade: Henry's suggested serenade was a terrible idea, and Inigo, glad as he was to see his parents alive and well, groaned into his hands rather loudly.

#35 - Sarcasm: Belatedly, Inigo realized his initial assumption of eating breakfast with Lucina like old times was a bit silly — he wouldn't dare move her away from sitting with her family, exchanging their normal witty banter.

#36 - Sordid: In the future, war was painful and grueling, but there, in that time — seeing his parents and friends alive and smiling again — almost made him understand the part of his father that had enjoyed the war.

#37 - Soliloquy: "Maybe I should just tell her how I feel," Inigo spoke to the necklace he was dangling in front of him, "because it really shouldn't be this hard — she's my best friend, after all."

#38 - Sojourn: "You know we cannot stay in this time," Lucina said quietly, as she watched her parents' tent with an unreadable expression.

#39 - Share: Inigo breathed heavily, knowing that he finally needed to do it — even though he did not feel ready, it was time to tell Lucina that he'd loved her since they were six years old and dancing their afternoons away in the castle.

#40 - Solitary: However, it was important to temper his expectations, he knew, as Lucina had turned into someone who had trouble connecting with others, and the likelihood of her returning his feelings was slim.

#41 - Nowhere: But of course, he was Inigo, which meant that his pep talk when he thought he was in the middle of nowhere ended with Lucina cornering him, demanding to know who he had been talking about.

#42 - Neutral: He kept his face deceptively neutral as he told her the truth — that it had always been her.

#43 - Nuance: If Inigo didn't know Lucina the way he knew the back of his own hand, he wouldn't have noticed the relief filling her eyes or the fraction of a smile on her face.

#44 - Near: Inigo nearly forgot to hug her back from shock when she wrapped her arms around him tightly.

#45 - Natural: It felt good, Lucina pressed up against him like that — it felt natural.

#46 - Horizon: The war was over, Grima gone — for good, thanks to Robin's sacrifice — and Inigo and his new wife looked out at the sky, after she'd finished saying goodbye to her younger self, ready to start a new journey together.

#47 - Valiant: The two of them did their best to help everyone in need, making sure to stop at every village they came across — there was much to clean up, after the war.

#48 - Virtuous: And everywhere they stopped, people lauded Lucina, and Inigo couldn't be happier.

#49 - Victory: A year had passed since the Shepherds had won their final war, and on that day exactly a messenger from Ylisstol came; Lucina cried as she read the letter — her mother had been found, and she was home.

#50 - Defeat: It hadn't been easy, going back in time to prevent that horrible, wretched future, but Lucina hadn't let Inigo — let any of them — be defeated by grief.
